What distinguishes a3,500-year-old ancient gemstone from Greece as unique? What insights does this small artifact provide about ancient microscopes? Did the ancients possess sophisticated optical technology shortly after the flood? An artifact discovered in Greece 3,500 years ago is challenging scientific thought, as creating such an intricate work of art on a small gemstone would require the use of a microscope.
A Husband-and-wife team Jack Davis and Sharon Stocker from the University of Cincinnati led the excavation near the ancient Palace of Nestor – a site mentioned in Homer’s epic poems. A miniature gemstone was discovered. The limestone-encrusted gem was one of 1,400 treasures found buried alongside a mysterious Bronze Age man – dubbed the Griffin Warrior – in Pylos, southwest Greece. The size of the gem is 1.4 inches.
It is so tiny that a microscope is needed to fully appreciate the mastery of the engraving, as some details are just half a millimeter (0.0197 inches) in size.

The Puzzle of Ancient Man" by Donald E. Chittick, Ph.D. states this:
"...Evidence indicates that fairly sophisticated optical technology was being used soon after the Flood ended. Although the evidence has been available in museums and other places for many years, up until recently it has been largely ignored because of the mindset that ancient people were primitive. However, what we are now learning through continued research is that ancient technology was not at all primitive. It was already mature when it first appeared."...The question can be asked, "Well, if early-post-Flood peoples used lenses, why do we not find those lenses?" The answer is, "Many lenses have in fact been found, indeed several hundreds of them. However, scholars, both past and even up to the present, tend to dismiss the implication that these archaeological objects were lenses."
